RACINE (WKOW) -- A Racine mother faces felony charges for allegedly leaving her two small children in a hot car while visiting a tanning salon.
A criminal complaint alleges 24-year-old Yolanda Kruse left her 1-week-old son in his car seat and her 22-month-old daughter in the front seat of the car, while she stopped by the tanning salon May 23.
A salon employee heard the toddler cry out and she called police. The children are now in the custody of their father.
The windows were rolled down, but police say the temperature inside topped 102 degrees in the noon sun.
Kruse is charged with two counts first-degree recklessly endangering safety and if convicted, she could face up to 15 years in prison.

Also Tuesday, a Federal Judge denied the Justice Department's request to temporarily delay an order to shut down federal funding for such work.
Two weeks ago, the judge blocked funding for embryonic stem cell research, citing an amendment that prohibits the use of taxpayer money in work that destroys an embryo.
