MADISON (WKOW) -- This September, Wisconsin's State Legislature is expected to take up bills that would strengthen laws against drunk driving.
Increasing pressure has been placed upon Wisconsin lawmakers to take action given that Wisconsin's laws against drunk driving are among the weakest in the country.
State Representative Tony Staskunas, a Democrat from West Allis, believes the assembly will vote on his bill in September to require ignition interlock devices for first-time offenders with a blood alcohol content above 0.15 percent.
Currently Wisconsin is the only state in the country where a first offense drunken driving is a traffic ticket and not a criminal offense.
