
MADISON (WKOW)--Wisconsin Farmers Union is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a young farmer or farm couple to attend the National Farmers Union legislative fly-in in Washington, D.C., on September 14-16, 2009.
The fly-in will begin with a briefing at the U.S. Department of Agriculture from NFU staff and USDA officials.
Farmers Union members will visit with congressional leaders about farm policy on Capitol Hill over the course of three days. The scholarship will be used toward transportation and lodging expenses.
Applicants must be a WFU member, a first-time fly-in participant, and between the ages of 20-45.
Those interested should send a 200-250 word essay on why they would like to attend the NFU fly-in and email the essay, along with their name, address, and telephone number to scholarship@wisconsinfarmersunion.com or mail to WFU State Office, c/o Fly-In Scholarship, 117 West Spring Street, Chippewa Falls, WI 54701. Applications must be sent by or postmarked by July 27, 2009.
The winner(s) of the WFU Fly-In Scholarship will be expected to report on their experience at the WFU State Convention in Eau Claire, Wis., on February 6-7, 2010.
