MADISON (WKOW) -- The new school year is fast approaching and the need for school supply donations is great.
For the 16th year, the Vogel Foundation and Madison Urban Ministries are spearheading the "School Supplies for Kids" program.
Through the foundation they will purchase the required pens, pencils, crayon, paper, and other basics for more than 17,500 at-need children from 141 schools throughout Dane County.
The "School Supplies for Kids" program has the generous support of Shopko Stores who sells to them at a bulk discount.
The number of needy families continues to grow.
In the past, the Vogel Foundation ordered $50,000 worth of supplies to meet these needs, but the need is actually more like $150,000.
Vogel Foundation President David Vogel says, "No child should be limited in what they can achieve by not being able to afford these basic supplies. It is extremely important that we invest in our future by helping support these kids in need."
