MADISON (WKOW) -- A former executive for a major national health insurer says the industry is fighting hard to block President Obama's health care overhaul.
Wendell Potter spent 20 years as a corporate public relations executive for Cigna. He now works for the Center for Media & Democracy, a non-profit advocacy group with ties to Madison.
Potter says the health insurance industry does a good job pushing its agenda while staying out of the limelight.
"They've done this for many years, it's proved very effective for them," says Potter. "They did it during the Clinton years and they've used those same tactics since then. It's helped killed legislation that the industry felt has not been in its best interest, such as the Patient's Bill of Rights."
On Sunday, President Obama said the battle over health care is coming to a head and the stakes couldn't be higher.
