MADISON (WKOW) -- The State Treasurer's office will auction off a number of unclaimed property items on eBay Monday, Dec. 7, including several diamond engagement rings.
Some of the items are one-of-a-kind and would make great Christmas presents," said Dawn Marie Sass, Wisconsin's state treasurer. "There are also a lot of gold items that will be very popular, given the price of gold right now."
Items include a men's 1.75 carat diamond ring, class rings from the 1960s, pocket watches and women's wrist watches, handmade jewelry from France and more.
Each year, the treasury department receives the contents of unclaimed safe deposit boxes from banks and other financial institutions. The items must be abandoned for at least five years before they go to the state.
The names of the rightful owners are published in local newspapers and entered into an online database. If the state sells the items in an auction, the value of those items is held for the heirs to collect.
For a full list of the items or to see if you have any unclaimed property from a safe deposit box, visit the State Treasury website.
The auction is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. (CST).
