OSHKOSH, Wis. (WKOW) -- It may feel freezing cold, but ice on bodies of water around the state aren't thick enough to travel on.
Ice expert Don Herman told the Oshkosh Northwestern there was only about a half inch to an inch of ice on Lake Winnebago on Friday.
He says much of the lake still has open water- and no one should be on the ice until it's about three inches thick.
Also remember heavy snowfall causes more weight on the ice- making it more susceptible to cracking.
