New active lifestyle for once-obese collie who froze to sidewalk
Jiffy in December 2008
SHEBOYGAN FALLS (WKOW) -- One year after a close encounter with a frozen sidewalk, Jiffy the border collie is slowly losing weight and enjoying a more active lifestyle.
In December 2008, authorities discovered Jiffy stuck to a frozen sidewalk in single-digit temperatures. Weighing in at around 120 pounds, his dense layers of fat helped him survive.
A court ordered his owner to give him up and a couple from Sheboygan Falls adopted Jiffy, who at the time could barely step over a 4-inch-high pipe and even then had to rest afterward.
But thanks to the loving care of the Geise family, Jiffy can now walk one mile at a normal pace and has lost 40 pounds. According to Patty Geise, Jiffy is still considered overweight but moves like a "regular dog."
