SPOKANE, Wash. (WKOW) -- At 109 years old, the oldest Canadian veteran of World War I died Thursday.

John Babcock lived in Spokane since 1932, according to a report from Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Babcock had become a Canadian celebrity in recent years.

There is only one surviving World War I veteran in the United States.  His name is Frank Woodruff Buckles, and he turned 109 earlier this month in West Virginia.
