Road construction season is underway; where to avoid

MADISON (WKOW) -- Road construction season is underway in Wisconsin.
 
Motorists can get up-to-the-minute travel information by either dialing 511 or going to www.511wi.gov. The following construction related traffic impacts are expected for May 3-9, 2010.
 
Here is where you'll find construction, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
 
Columbia County
Highway:  I-39/90/94
Location:  WIS 60 to County CS, Columbia County
Schedule:  March – May; Sept.-Nov. 2010
Description: Pavement replacement and installation of median safety walls
Traffic Impact: Four lanes (bidirectional) traffic open. Delays expected Friday afternoons (northbound) and Sundays (southbound). Alternate routes recommend during peak hours. Six lanes open June-Aug.

Columbia County, Juneau, Sauk
Highway: I-90/94
Location: Various locations
Description of work: Pavement repair and bridge work
Schedule: March 15 – Sept. 17, 2010
Traffic Impact: Continuous weekly single lane closures in both directions.

Crawford County
Highway: WIS 131                 
Location: Soldiers Grove                  
Description: Bridge removal and replacement      
Schedule:  March 29 – Oct. 15, 2010       
Traffic Impact:  Flagging operations at the intersection of Pleasant/WIS 131 from March 29-April 20. Detour route US 61 to New Well Rd. to WIS 131 starting April 21 until completion.

Highway: East Washington Ave. (US 151)           
Location: Marquette St. to Melvin Ct.             
Description: Resurfacing          
Schedule:  April 19-June 1, 2010          
Traffic Impact:  Daily daytime lane closures.

Highway:  I-39/90/94
Location:  Lien Road bridge overpass, Madison, Dane County
Schedule:  March –September 2010
Description: Replacement of bridges over Lien Rd.
Traffic Impact: Periodic lane closures during non-peak hours. Eastbound I-39 ramp from High Crossing Boulevard is closed through May, detour route US 151. Lien Road is closed through June, inbound motorists on Lien Road routed to Felland Road, Nelson Road and US 151; outbound motorists routed to Zeier Road, US 151, Nelson Road and Felland Road. The WIS 30 ramp to eastbound I-39 will be closed March 29 to mid-June. Motorists will be routed to US 51 north to eastbound I-39.

Location:  I-39/90/94 Badger Interchange to County N, Cottage Grove, Dane County
Schedule: March – November 2010
Description: Reconstruction/expansion of westbound Interstate to three lanes
Traffic Impact: Traffic shifted to eastbound side of highway. Four lanes open (bidirectional). Speeds reduced to 55 mph.

Location: County N (Dane) to Airport Rd. (Jefferson)
Schedule: April 19-July 2, 2010
Description: Resurfacing
Traffic Impact: Single lane closures nighttime only.

Highway: WIS 33
Location:  WIS 68 to Trenton Street
Schedule:  April 5 – Aug. 20, 2010
Description: Reconstruction of WIS 33
Traffic Impact: Road closed with posted detour. Detour route is WIS 68, County A, US 151.

Location:  Gypsy Rd. to Welsh Rd.
Schedule:  April 5 – late Aug. 2010t
Description: Reconstruction of WIS 19 at WIS 26 bypass (Watertown)
Traffic Impact: Closed with posted detour. Detour route is County K, County Q and WIS 26.

Highway: WIS 39
Location: Mineral Point - Hollandale Road
Description: Resurfacing
Schedule: April 26 – Nov. 15, 2010
Traffic Impact: WIS 39 will be closed to traffic for the duration of the project. Detour route WIS 23, US 18, County Y, WIS 191.

Highway: WIS 26
Location:  Jefferson Bypass
Schedule:  April 5-Dec. 2010
Description: Construction of WIS 26 bypass north of Ft. Atkinson and around Jefferson
Traffic Impact: Northbound off ramp to south Business, Ft. Atkinson, closed; use US 12 exit. Lane width restrictions, shoulder closures and traffic shifts along WIS 26.

Location: Johnson Creek to Watertown
Description: Expanding WIS 26 to 4 lanes
Schedule:  April 26 - December 2010
Traffic Impact:  Lane width restrictions, shoulder closures and traffic shifts along WIS 26.

Juneau & Monroe County
Highway:  I-90/94
Location:  Camp Douglas to Tomah, Juneau/Monroe County 
Schedule:  March – October 2010
Description:  Pavement replacement, 6.5 miles
Traffic Impact: Two lanes (bidirectional) traffic open through work zone. Speeds reduced to 55 mph. Delays expected Friday and Sunday. Alternate route US 12.

Highway: WIS 173
Location: WIS 21 to the east county line
Description: Lemonweir River Bridge replacement
Schedule: April 5-June 18, 2010
Traffic Impact: Signed detour WIS 21, Wyeville, to WIS 80, Necedah, to Babcock. The bridge is out.

Location: West county line to .15 miles west of WIS 171
Description: Resurfacing
Schedule: March 22 – Oct. 31, 2010
Traffic Impact: Lane width restrictions of 12' under flagging operations during daytime hours. Free-flowing 12' lane widths restored at the end of each day.

Description: Dell Creek bridge deck replacement and widening.

Description: US 12 Baraboo bypass construction work
Traffic Impact: WIS 33 will be closed west of US 12. WIS 23/WIS 33 intersection is open. WIS 33 west of WIS 23 intersection is open. Signed detour route WIS 136.
