Small Business Saturday aims to boost sales for local stores

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- It's Small Business Saturday across the country. Locally owned businesses are hoping they won't get lost in the holiday shopping frenzy.

All downtown Madison businesses participated in today's holiday open house. They hope to stay competitive with the big deals at big box stores.

Anne Connor of Driftless Studio Nature Gallery and Gifts says, "Maybe they went to the mall yesterday, maybe they went to the big box stores. Today they're coming downtown to look for those unique gifts."

This is the first year for Small Business Saturday. It's a national event aimed to support local businesses that create jobs and boost the economy.

Connor says it helps. Her shop saw nearly double the business.
