Msn. Memorial advances to seventh state title in 8 years
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- For the seventh time in eight years, Madison Memorial will play for the WIAA Division 1 boys basketball state championship.
Senior forward Miles Chamberlain scored 14 of his career-high 22 points in the second half as the Spartans held off Milwaukee Hamilton 55-45 in the semifinals Friday night at the Kohl Center.
Memorial (21-6), which lost in the state final last season, will seek its third championship Saturday night against top-ranked Appleton East or No. 6 De Pere. The Spartans won state finals in 2005 and '09, while falling in 2004, '06, '08 and '10.
Chamberlain scored nine points in a 16-3 run spanning the third and fourth quarters as Memorial stormed back from a seven-point deficit and fended off the Wildcats (20-7).
Senior guard Haki Stampley led the Wildcats with 15 points.
