UPDATE: Three dead after crash near Cottage Grove


DANE CO (WKOW) --  Family and friends of an elderly couple killed in a crash on a Dane County highway say they had been married nearly 53 years.

73-year-old Darrell Reynolds and his wife 71-year-old Delores were killed Sunday evening when their car crossed the centerline on US 12 near Nora Road, hitting another vehicle, then another vehicle driven by 52-year-old Wayne Kopp of Verona.

A 17-year-old passenger in Kopp's car was taken to the hospital with non-threatening life injuries.

The Reynolds were well-known in their southeast-Madison neighborhood. Neighbors say Darrell would routinely mow lawns, shovel sidewalks, and do other chores for most everyone.

They had three daughters and several grandchildren. His daughter, Janet Grady, said her parents loved each other, and their family, completely. Grady said, "Dad had time to help everyone. It wasn't just the lawn work, if someone needed help with anything, he was there."


DANE COUNTY (WKOW) -- Officials have released the names of the three people who were killed in Sunday's crash on US-12.

The Dane County Medical Examiner's Office says Darrell Reynolds, 73, and his wife Delores, 71, were in the Ford Explorer.  Darrell was driving and he wife was the passenger.  Both were died at the scene.

Officials say Wayne Kopp, 52, also died at the scene.  He was driving the Dodge minivan. 


COTTAGE GROVE (WKOW) -- Dane County officials have released more information about the wreck that killed three near Cottage Grove Sunday afternoon.

Police say a 1998 Ford Explorer driven by a 73-year-old Madison man crossed the centerline of US-12 near the intersection of US-18.  The SUV hit a 2005 Buick Rendezvous driven by Thomas Wileman, 74, of Fort Atkinson that was traveling east.  The SUV then hit a 2002 Dodge minivan that was also heading east.  The driver of the minivan, a 52-year-old man from Verona was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Both occupants in the Explorer died at the scene.  Occupants of the Buick, Wileman and passenger Carol Wileman, 69, were transported to Fort Atkinson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  A 17-year-old passenger in the minivan was transported to UW Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The names of the victims are not being released until the families are notified.

The Dane County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident. 


COTTAGE GROVE (WKOW) --  Dane County dispatch confirms three people are dead after a crash on 12/18 near Nora Road in Cottage Grove.

US 12 was closed in both directions for hours. The crash happened around 4:30 Sunday evening.

Officials confirm the crash happened as one vehicle was headed westbound on 12/18, when it crossed the centerline, hitting a car heading eastbound, bounced off that one, and hit a second car head-on.

Both people in that eastbound vehicle were killed.

Two people were in the westbound vehicle, and dispatch says one person in that car is dead, and another in serious condition.

Medflight was called to the scene.
