Maxwell Street Days underway in Madison

MADISON (WKOW) -- Cold weather is not stopping some shoppers from hitting up hot deals at Maxwell Street Days.

The 33rd annual sidewalk sale for State Street stores got underway Friday.

Store owners came prepared for the rain with tarps to cover their merchandise but even with it covered, people are still checking out the deals.

Held rain or shine, the three day sale is giving owners a much needed boost this year.  They say with the economy, any cash flow is necessary.

Shoppers say they're coming out for the bargains.

Store owners expect more people to start their Christmas shopping in this month because of the bargains here.

Speaking of Christmas in July, it was chilly out - a record cold Friday.  A store owner who usually brings Gatorade because its so hot, says this is the first year she's brought hot tea.

Sales for some stores were down Friday but they are expecting more people to turnout Saturday and Sunday.

Its estimated 30,000 people come to the sale every year.
