Despite youth Black Hawk girl's basketball remain No. 1

After a 55-37 win over Springville on Saturday, the Black Hawk High School girl's basketball team improved to (8-0) on the season and continues to be ranked No. 1 in division five in the state. The Warriors are accomplishing all of this with 12 girls on the roster and over half of them are freshman and sophomores.

Mount Horeb boys soccer claims state crown

The Mount Horeb boys soccer team got the redemption they've been dreaming of for the past year. After falling to Delavan-Darien in the WIAA Division 3 state championship game a year ago, the Vikings returned the favor by besting Delavan-Darien 2-1 for Mount Horeb's second state championship in three seasons. 


Lakeside Lutheran girls volleyball claims first state title

The Lakeside Lutheran girls volleyball team was staring defeat in the face but didn't blink. Down two sets, the Warriors rallied to claim their first girls volleyball state championship. Lakeside Lutheran defeated Luxemburg-Casco 19-25, 13-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-10 in the WIAA Division 2 championship. 


Whitefish Bay rolls past Oregon boys soccer in title game

Nationally-ranked Whitefish Bay had little trouble with Oregon in the WIAA Division 2 boys soccer state championship game. Whitefish Bay scored six goals in the first half and held on for the 6-1 victory. Johnny Auer scored the lone goal for Oregon. The Panthers finish their season with a 17-5-3 record. More>>

The Mount Horeb boys soccer team is headed back to the state championship game. The Vikings bested Amery 5-1 in the WIAA Division 2 semifinals. Jaden Neumann netted four goals for Mount Horeb. The Lakeside Lutheran girls volleyball team ended Catholic Memorial's three-year run as state champions. The Warriors swept Catholic Memorial in the WIAA Division 2 semifinals, 25-20, 25-19 and 25-20. Waterloo girls volleyball falls in state semifinals

The Waterloo girls volleyball team dreamed of bringing home a third state championship in the last four seasons. However, that dream came to a heartbreaking end in the WIAA Division 3 semifinals. Lake Country Lutheran rallied for a five-set victory, 25-11, 22-25, 19-25, 25-17 and 16-14. Brooke Mosher led the Pirates with 20 kills. Claire Mosher added 11 kills. The Oregon boys soccer team survived a thriller against Waukesha West in the WIAA Division 2 semifinals. After playing to a 2-2 draw through two overtimes, the Panthers advanced with a 4-3 shootout victory. Zach Pasley notched both goals for Oregon. 


Waterloo volleyball returns to state

The Waterloo girls volleyball team accomplished a rare feat by winning back-to-back Division 3 State Championships in 2014 and 2015. The Pirates are now on a mission to prove they can maintain that level of success. 


Madison West soccer makes surprise trip to state

The Madison West boys soccer program has a proud tradition. The Regents have won three state championships and have made it to state 14 times. Still, the 15th state berth came as a bit of a surprise to those outside the program.

The high school football regular season came to a close Friday night with week nine of the season.  Here are some scores and highlights from around the state. 


Milton's Seeman claims state golf championship

Milton's Mia Seeman held off all challengers on the second day of the WIAA Division 1 State Tournament at University Ridge Golf Course. She claimed the individual state championship by two strokes by shooting a combined score of 145 through the two-day tournament. Milton finished second in the team competition. Verona was sixth. Middleton took eighth.


Edgewood girls golf finishes second at state tournament

The Edgewood girls golf team made a strong run at a WIAA Division 2 State Championship at University Ridge Golf Course. However, the Crusaders settled for second behind Aquinas. Grace Welch led the way for Edgewood by finishing in fifth place in the individual standings.

Not Settling For "Shorter" Than State

Next week ,the Verona girls' golf team will be one of twelve squads to tee off at the state tournament. A big reason why they've come this far is because their top two golfers - who also happen to be twins.


Middleton edges Verona for sectional golf title

The Middleton and Verona girls golf teams went shot-for-shot at the WIAA Division 1 sectional tournament. After tying for the team title, Middleton was ultimately declared the winner on a scorecard tiebreaker. 


Edgewood wins girls golf sectional championship

The Edgewood girls earned another trip to state by claiming the Sectional Championship at Yahara Golf Club. Grace Welch paced Edgewood by shooting 83. She finished in second place.

Roelke hits 50 years coaching football in DeForest

If you have been to a football practice in DeForest in the last 50 years, there is a good chance Jerry Roelke was there. The long time coach enters his 50th season with the program. 


Belleville opens season by honoring fallen teammate

The Belleville Wildcats opened their season with a win last week, but they did so without one of their senior captains, Eric O'Connor. He died in an ATV accident in July. The team now triumphs over tragedy in his honor.

One week away from the start of the football season, expectations are high at Sun Prairie, as usual. The Cardinals were co-champions of the Big Eight conference a year ago. With 12 returning starters, Sun Prairie is the favorite to claim the title again this year. 


Thornton returns home to take over at Madison East

Jeremy Thornton knows what it's like to have success on the gridiron at Madison East High School. The former All-Conference quarterback led the Purgolders to the playoffs as a senior. More than a decade later, he's returned to his alma mater as the head coach.

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association will soon be saying farewell to one of it's longtime leaders. Associate Director Deb Hauser has announced she will be retiring following the 2017-18 school year. 


Four future Badgers hear name called in NHL Draft

The second day of the 2017 NHL Draft marked the 20th consecutive season that the University of Wisconsin had a player drafted as four incoming freshman were selected.

Edgewood and Oregon had their season's come to a close in their respective divisions in semifinal final play of the WIAA girl's soccer state tournament on Friday in Milwaukee.

McDonell Central holds on to beat Belmont in state softball tournament

The Belmont softball team made a late rally but still came up short in the Division 5 state semifinals. McDonell Central held on for a 5-4 win at Goodman Diamond. Belmont only managed four hits in the contest. Lydia Leahy drove in two runs. Legendary Barneveld High School basketball coach Jim Myers has stepped down from his position as the boys basketball coach. Myers confirmed his decision to WKOW on Monday afternoon. He says he wanted to make sure he had time to watch his son play in college at Concordia University. 


Eau Claire Memorial wins Edgewood Invite

The hosts came up just short in the Edgewood Invitational boys golf tournament at Blackhawk Country Club. Eau Claire Memorial edged Edgewood by three strokes to take the team title. Eau Claire Memorial's Trevor Hudecek also took home individual medalist honors by shooting a 75 (+3). Middleton's Colin Butler shot a 76.

The Shell Athletic Center on the campus of the University hosted fifty-two teams on Saturday in the oldest meet in the state at the 80th annual Madison West Relays indoor track and field event.

Nine total goals were required to settle a WIAA Boys State Hockey Tournament semifinal game Friday night. Waukesha North advanced with a 5-4 overtime win against Sun Prairie Friday night at the Alliant Energy Center. 


Season ends for Cap City Cougars

The Sun Prairie co-op girls hockey team, also known as the Cap City Cougars, fought until the end. However, they just could not get the puck in the net. The Cougars fall to D.C. Everest co-op 1-0 in the WIAA state semifinals. Maggie Plaza scored the only goal. The Cougars were making just their second appearance in the state tournament.
