RIPON, Wis. (AP) - Police say a Ripon woman was unknowingly trafficking weapons and other goods for a Russian militia.
Officers investigating a credit card fraud case earlier this month determined a number of packages involved were shipped to a Ripon home. Police seized about 20 packages from the woman's home and discovered they contained illegal military equipment, including high-end rifle-sniper scopes. The property had been purchased with stolen credit card information.
The woman told police she was hired by an online temporary agency to reship packages that were sent to her to help a Russian orphanage.
Ripon Police Chief Dave Lukoski told the Fond du Lac Reporter that the woman likely won't face charges. The FBI and other federal agencies are assisting.
