MADISON (WKOW) -- The issue of extending federal unemployment benefits could go before the state Unemployment Insurance Advisory Council Thursday.
The Journal Sentinel reports that more than 10,000 unemployed Wisconsin residents aren't getting an estimated $89 million in extended benefits because the state didn't renew the money that's part of the 2009 stimulus bill. The 13 additional weeks of unemployment coverage are worth up to $363 a week.
Rep. Robin Vos, the co-chairman of the Joint Finance Committee, is among legislators who think extending unemployment benefits give those without a job a reason not to take low-paying work.
