MILWAUKEE (WKOW)-- Auxiliary Bishop William Patrick Callahan has been selected to serve as administrator of the Milwaukee Roman Catholic Archdiocese until a new archbishop is selected.
Former Archbishop Timothy Dolan was installed April 15 as archbishop of New York.
A successor to lead the Milwaukee Archdiocese will be named by Pope Benedict XVI.
As diocesan administrator, Callahan will oversee day-to-day activities of the archdiocese in the interim.
The 58-year-old Callahan, a Franciscan and Chicago native, was elected by the archdiocesan College of Consultors, a group of priests who advise the local bishop.
He was named auxiliary bishop by the pope on Oct. 30, 2007.
