MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- Meals on Wheels in Middleton announces Meals-on-2-Wheels, a new "green" delivery program.
According to the Middleton Senior Center, volunteers will now be able to deliver meals to homebound seniors, and get exercise at the same time. Meals-on-2-wheels is a new bike-based program.
It's already attracting new volunteers.
Tom Washa, a new Meals-on-2-Wheels volunteer said, "I like to help and I read that they needed volunteers, but when I read that I could ride my bike while volunteering, I knew I was interested!"
Meals are transported in a lightweight trailer inside thermal coolers that will keep the food warm or cool as necessary in most temperatures. Middleton Cycle donated a bike that volunteers can use or they can ride their own.
During bad weather, volunteers have the option of driving their car. They are reimbursed for mileage and insurance.
