MONROE (WKOW)-- Every parent can attest to this, kids seem to be busier than ever these days.

From athletics-- to academics-- to friends-- kids of all ages are constantly on the move.

We meet one young teen who seems to be doing it all.

Avery Erb is "Someone You Should Know.'

13 year old Avery Erb excels at school.

In fact, the 8th grader in Monroe skipped from 5th to 7th grade.

But Avery's day doesn't end when the school bell rings.

On any given day-- even on the weekend-- Avery has something to do.

She attends youth choir practice in Madison.

She helps her mom at her catechism class, and tutors a 2nd grader in math.

Avery saw history happen. She attended President Obama's inauguration in January through an organization called People to People.

Avery was chosen for her leadership skills.

"It was really amazing how many people there were and to be able to see this happen because it's a once in a lifetime thing and I was just honored that they chose me to go there," said Avery.

It's enough to make any parent proud. But Avery doesn't stop with academics or music.

Like many kids, Avery, along with her 11 year old sister, Ellie, helps out around the house, but maybe a little more than most.

Avery's mother, Wendy, is paralyzed from the waist down.

"I was in a car accident in 1990," said Wendy.

It was a miracle Wendy survived after plunging 70 feet over an embankment in her car.

6 years later, another miracle, Wendy graduated law school, 9 months pregnant with Avery.

As many mothers do on mother's day, I asked Wendy to share with me a fond memory about Avery growing up.

"One time, she was about 2, I was putting her to bed and she said: I think I want to be a doctor. And, I said, oh, you want to be a doctor, coming from a 2 year old. And I said why? And she said so I can fix you. I was like oh that's so sweet," said Wendy.

Maybe she will some day.

For now, Avery's found other ways to help her mom.

"I've asked her to help me out from a young age with doing housework, things that I don't think a lot of kids had to do. But I just kinda needed the help so, and she was always willing to do it," said Wendy.

"Certainly she has a perspective that most kids would not have, that's something that's just a part of her," said Bob Erb, Avery's father.

Avery says she wouldn't have it any other way.

"She's like my best friend," said Avery. "I think it's really helped me to be closer to her. A lot of people aren't close to their moms. They say they don't want to tell her anything, I don't even want to be seen with her in public. But it's not like that for me. She's really cool. She's a lot cooler than most people I bet."
