KENOSHA (WKOW) -- The Kenosha City Council unanimously passed a resolution opposing Chrysler's plan to close its engine plant.

The resolution praises Kenosha workers and says the plant is a vital part of the local economy.

It also provides $43 million in wages and $450,000 in property taxes.

The resolution states that Kenosha workers were the first asked by Chrysler to accept concessions to keep engine production in the U.S.

It adds that taxpayers helped modernize the plant and keep the industry going.

The resolution will be sent to President Barack Obama, members of Congress and directors of Chrysler and Italy's Fiat.

Chrysler plans to sell the bulk of its assets to a group led by Fiat as part of its plan to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Chrysler's plans to close the plant by the end of 2010.
