MADISON (WKOW) - It's a place to offer a calm setting for families with sick children and Saturday it hit a milestone.
The Ronald McDonald organization is celebrating the 16th anniversary of the group's Madison house.
It provides a home for families who come to Madison to get the medical care for their children.
Last year, more than 1,000 families stayed there.
Executive Director Kevin Huddleston said the families make up a strong support group at stressful time in their lives.
"I was sitting at my desk working on something and I can hear the front door open... and I hear this little girl walking down the hall talking and then I hear her shout to her mom whose sitting in the kitchen, 'Mom, I'm home' and I thought that is really what this is all about here, it is a home away from home for people," Huddleston said.
Along with the house, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile provides free dental and medical care for underserved children.
Last year, it provided 8,000 kids with 2.6 million dollars in services across south central Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
