UPDATE: Buyer found for GM’s Hummer brand

DETROIT (WKOW) - General Motors plans to sell the Hummer brand to China's Sichuan Tengzhong for an undisclosed sum.

Tengzhong is based in the Chinese province of Sichuan.

It's a privately held maker of road, construction and energy industry equipment.

As part of the deal, the company is expected to sign a long-term contract assembly and component and material supply agreement with GM.

GM says it expects it to save about 3,000 jobs if the deal is successful.

Hummer will also keep its existing management team and remain based in the United States.

Tengzhong says it expects to expand the brand's dealer network worldwide, especially to China.

NEW YORK (WKOW) -- General Motors has entered into a tentative agreement to sell its Hummer brand, one day after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The sale will likely save more than 3,000 U.S. jobs, according to the automaker.

GM did not name the prospective buyer or the price of the deal.
