LAKE DELTON (WKOW) -- Tourism Secretary Kelli Trumble tells 27 News the mood at Tuesday's events commemorating the historic flooding of 2008 and the re-opening of Lake Delton "celebratory."

Trumble says the rebirth of the Wisconsin Dells area is critical to the state's bottom line, with $1 billion of Wisconsin's $13 billion tourist dollars coming from Sauk County.

Joe Eck, General Manager of the Wilderness Resort, tell us his business took a 30 percent hit after the flooding last year and he calls today's anniversary "the dawn of a new day."

Carl Agnelly and Tony Galli are both in Wisconsin Dells today and will bring you updates during the morning and afternoon here on our web channel plus live reports beginning tonight on 27 News at 5:00.

LAKE DELTON (WKOW) -- One year after it emptied and drained into the Wisconsin River, Lake Delton will officially reopen Tuesday.

Gov. Jim Doyle will do the honors at the site of a popular water show in Wisconsin Dells.

Doyle's scheduled announcement at the Tommy Bartlett Show site comes one year after the 264-acre lake emptied when record rainfalls washed away land and a portion of County Highway A.

The water-ski portion of the Tommy Bartlett Show started two weeks ago after it and three dozen other business and resorts that ring the lake ended up high and dry last summer.

Doyle committed to quickly restoring and refilling the lake and the state Department of Natural Resources made sure to finish before the start of this summer's tourism season.

The state of Wisconsin and the village of Lake Delton paid about $10 million to restore the lake and surrounding area.
