NOAA Weather Radios can save lives

MADISON (WKOW) -- Dane County Emergency Management officials want to remind everyone the importance of having a weather radio on hand for summer severe weather emergencies.

During Thursday night's heavy rain and winds, nine alerts were delivered without delay to any residents with their NOAA Weather Radios on hand, including severe thunderstorm warnings, a flash flood warning, and a tornado watch.

These radios can provide warning information that is very location specific and includes a verbal description of what residents should do to stay safe.

The county is making programmable versions of these radios available at cost through local municipalities to anyone; click here to link to their web site for more information.
