DNR shows boaters how to prevent invasive species in Wisconsin lakes
MADISON (WKOW) -- Boaters in Madison had a chance to learn how to better protect the state's lakes as part of the ongoing Take a Stake in the Lakes week.
DNR officials showed boaters how to check for and remove invasive species. Weeds, mussels, even water containing viruses like VHS, which causes fish to bleed internally, have all been problems in recent years in Wisconsin waters.
The threat spreads when boats move from lake to lake.
The DNR says the public has been extremely helpful in slowing this trend down.
