Local stuntman gets role in Public Enemies movie

The movie "Public Enemies" hits theatres next week.

The movie was filmed right here in Wisconsin.

The cast features a lot of big name stars, like Johnny Depp.

But not everyone in the movie is right out of Hollywood.

Jason Huett is "Someone You Should Know."

Jason Huett was just like the youngsters he teaches today, when he started to learn how to kick, punch and yell out.

Jason started learning martial arts when he was just 8.

"Had an older sister who liked to pick on me and my mom enrolled me in the martial arts," said Jason.

Jason has certainly found a passion: teaching the young and young at heart martial arts at one of his three studios called Kicks Unlimited.

"I love it," said Jason. "That's why I went into this business, working with students, seeing them develop-- do things that they didn't think they could do."

He's even taught his mom.

"She started in her very, very late 50's and earned her black belt when she was in her early 60's, so anyone can do it," said Jason.

I don't know if Jason taught his Mom this move though.

"Instead of landing with that foot second, I'm goning to kick with it and land on it first," said Jason as he describes a kick called the 540. "So we need about 60 miles per hour of speed on the kick to be able to do a 540, is what we call the kick."

Jason then demonstrates the 540!

Jason is a 5th degree black belt.

"The concept of the belt has changed," said Jason. "Used to be you had one belt, it was a white belt and the longer you trained and you were training outside, the belt would turn dark and eventually turn black."

A three year stint as a Power Ranger in Los Angeles and becoming a member of the Screen Actors Guild set the stage for another Hollywood moment for Jason, this time back here in Wisconsin.

Jason was a stuntman in the movie filmed around the state: "Public Enemies."

"The scene I'm in is a bank robbery scene and it's a hostage scene and full of all kinds of incredible action," said Jason.

"They had stunt people come in from all over the country for this," said Jason.

"We probably spent 4 to 6 hours on each scene, outside of the bank we filmed it from different angles," said Jason.

"Do we actually see you in the movie?" I asked.

"I don't know cuz I haven't seen it," said Jason.

Jason is thrilled he played a small role in Wisconsin making it onto the big screen.

"It's gonna be huge, it's gonna be huge," said Jason.

"Public Enemies" premieres nationwide July 1st.

Director Michael Mann, by the way, also has a Madison connection.

He graduated from the U-W.

Jason, along with a few other stuntmen in the movie will host a showing Saturday, July 12th at Star Cinema.
