Boys are not the only ones having fun swinging for the fences this summer. Youth softball leagues are keeping girls busy all over the area.
In DeForest, softball leagues start for girls as young as age 5. That's where we find this week's Little Heroes.
Young girls take to the field at Fireman's Park in DeForest to play softball.
For the girls, there is one part most fun for them.
"Batting," little Rachael said.
It is not easy. Coaches pitch and no outs are kept. The girls get 6 swings before putting the ball on a tee.
"Sometimes they are high and sometimes they are low," Tristen said.
"Sometimes you miss it," Reagan added.
It is the first chance for these girls to hit live pitching. But they do enjoy the chance to split from the boys after being together for t-ball.
"It's nice we're all girls," Reagan said.
"I like playing with girls. Boys get in our way," Taylor said.
