Hail storm moves through Madison area overnight

MADISON (WKOW) -- A strong storm, containing quarter-sized hail, moved through Dane County during the overnight hours.

There were reports of minor damage this morning following the storm mainly to the north and east of the city of Madison.

A spokesperson at the Dane County Regional Airport, says that the storm moved through around 2:15 a.m. hitting the airport with quarter-sized hail. However there was no damage to county property or to commercial planes.

A spokesperson with Wisconsin Aviation tells 27 News that preliminary estimates have 5 to 6 planes damaged from the hail. The damage is mostly cosmetic damage to the skin of the planes while one plane had a plexi-glass skylight knocked out.
