ROCK SPRINGS (WKOW) -- Rocks Springs is still trying to recover from the devastating floods of 2008, planning a fundraiser for the fire department in September.
Village leaders in Rock Springs are putting out a plea for help. On June 8, 2008, much of the Village was under water. Heavy rains and storms sent raw sewage into the Village. The water was 8-9 feet deep, deeper in some areas.
The catastrophe showed Village leaders there are many items the fire department needs to be able to rescue people in events like these, but the floods destroyed the location of their yearly fundraiser, normally held in June, and they had to cancel it. The fundraiser usually brings in $7,000 - $8,000 for the Rock Springs Fire Department.
The Village lost 21 homes in the flood and therefore, lost that tax revenue as well. The Rock Springs Village government has not been able to set aside funds for the fire department's capital replacement needs.
This year, the Village is planning to hold an auction in September. They are seeking items autographed by celebrities, or any items people would like to donate.
The fundraiser will be held September 26, 2009. There will be a Pig Roast, Music, Dunk Tank, Kid Games, Face Painting, Raffle and the auction.
