MADISON (WKOW) -- Members of a social conservative group are taking their fight against domestic partnership benefits all the way to the state Supreme Court.
Thursday, three board members of the organization Wisconsin Family Action filed a lawsuit with the state's highest court, claiming the new law that allows gay and lesbian couples to form legal domestic partnerships violates the state's constitutional ban on gay marriage and civil unions.
Governor Doyle signed the law as part of the state budget last month. And starting August 3, same-sex couples will be able to register with their counties to receive dozens of the same rights and protections as married couples.
