DETROIT (WKOW) -- Ford Motor Co. says the wildly popular "Cash for Clunkers" government incentive program increase July sales 1.6 percent over this time last year.
Under the program, owners of older cars and trucks can trade them in for newer more fuel-efficient models for a credit of $3,500 to $4,500.
Ford says it sold 158,354 light vehicles in July, compared with 155,866 vehicles in July 2008.
Other automakers are expected to release their sales figures Monday, as well. Subaru of America already predicts a 30 percent sales increase.
