Stevens Point student settles in illegal downloading case
MADISON (WKOW) -- A University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point student has settled a lawsuit with the recording industry for illegally downloading songs on the internet.
The industry's settlement with Frank Minervini of Wisconsin Rapids was accepted by U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb. Details of the deal are not public.
Minervini is accused of downloading several songs in 2007, ranging from Alice Cooper's "Poison" to "Game Got Switched" by Ludacris.
The University of Wisconsin System identified Minervini as a frequent downloader after the record companies obtained a court order to get student downloaders' IP addresses. More than 50 names were turned over.
