MADISON (WKOW) -- Samuel M. Lehman faces multiple charges including impersonating a police officer and underage drinking following an incident downtown.
Lehman, a Madison Police intern, was intoxicated and walking on North Frances Street near Langdon Street when he encountered three men. He pulled out his MPD intern ID, told the men he was an undercover MPD Detective, pointed his index finger at them with his thumb up (in the shape of a gun), and ordered the men to the ground. He then pulled out his phone and talked into it requesting back-up. Lehman proceeded to grab one of the men and throw him on the ground, telling him to not get up. A short time later, Lehman told the men they could leave. He told them they were "lucky" and he'd let the situation go at this time.
Lehman was arrested by officers after he walked away. He faces charges of impersonating a police officer, disorderly conduct, and underage drinking.
The Madison Police Department says Lehman's internship will likely be ending.
