WASHINGTON, DC (WKOW)-- In a consumer alert, Officials say as the popular cash for clunkers program grows, so do the number of scams.
Fraudulent Web sites are asking buyers for their personal information to register for the program.
But the plan doesn't require registration.
New York Senator Chuck Schumer wants the federal trade commission to weed out and shut down those Web sites.
The program -- which got two billion in additional funding with the President's signature Friday is expected to last through Labor Day.
