MADISON (WKOW) -- More than 560,000 people are now enrolled in Wisconsin's foodshare program, an increase of 33 percent from last year, according to the State Department of Health Services.
Department Secretary Karen Timberlake says the jump is due largely to the economy, but she says the recent changes have made it easier for people to sign up.
Residents can now apply online or over the phone for benefits. They can also receive the money in the form of a debit card.
