MADISON (WKOW) -- A local group is raising awareness about potentially life-threatening food allergies.
The Food Allergy Association of Wisconsin held a walk at Warner Park Saturday.
Organizers say food allergies are a growing problem, affecting more than 11 million Americans and at least 8 % of children younger than 3 years of age.
Sheree Godwin, the president of the WI Food Allergy Association, says, "How to read labels: these are ways you can help people be safe, because a lot of people with food allergies don't go out to restaurants because it's not safe, this way people can have another option and go to restaurants."
All funds raised this year will go toward starting school and daycare programs for food allergies, startup of the local organization and support of other support groups across the state.
