Art conservator cleans Bascom Hill's Lincoln statue
MADISON (WKOW) -- UW students will find a bright and shiny new Abraham Lincoln this week, thanks to an art conservator out of Milwaukee.
Cricket Harbeck will begin cleaning the popular statue, which sits atop Bascom Hill on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, this week, to coincide with the bicentennial of Lincoln's birth. This is the statue's first cleaning in more than a decade, and will be power washed, then treated with hot and cold wax to protect the bronze.
The statue is a replica of the original that was erected in Lincoln's hometown of Hodgenville, Kentucky.
