Verona Little League Heroes

VERONA (WKOW) -- Verona's 10/11 Little League team was not supposed to be in the state title game. Instead, they walk away the state silver medalist.

Quite the impressive feat from this week's Little Heroes.

After losing 3 times in round robin action, they qualified for the semifinals and knocked off Germantown to reach Saturday's finals against Appleton.

Weather delayed the game's start by 5 hours, but the excited little leaguers from Verona got things started first on their home diamond.

Verona went up 1-0 in the first, but Appleton responded with four unanswered.

Verona cut it to 4-3 in the third, but that was as close as it would get as Appleton took the title banner home with an 8-3 win.

"This team may not have been champions, but these kids definitely had the heart of champions," Coach Mike Rogowski said. "Our motto was to never give up and they never did."

This was the best performance in the 10/11 history of Verona.
