MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- We Energies and a Milwaukee-area contractor are contesting federal safety citations and penalties imposed following February's power plant explosion.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined We Energies and Waukesha-based ThyssenKrupp Safeway Inc. nearly $150,000 each in July.
An OSHA spokesperson says both had an informal conference with the agency Tuesday to request a formal review, which gives them a chance to present their side to a review commission, which could then choose to reduce the fines.
Four workers were seriously hurt and four others suffered less serious injuries in the blast at the We Energies plant in Oak Creek, about 20 miles south of Milwaukee.
