MADISON (WKOW) -- The local Fire Fighters union announced Wednesday that it has approved its contract with the City of Madison for 2010 and 2011.
The Fire Fighters Local 311 agreed to no pay increases in 2010 and a 3-percent increase in the last pay period of 2011. The City of Madison will maintain health care costs for 2010.
After being briefed on the budget by Mayor Dave Cieslewicz, Local 311 approached the Mayor to work on an agreement that addresses the budget challenges the city faces.
"Protecting public safety is a top priority as I begin my budget process. In the challenging budget situation we face, I am very pleased that we can work together and come to an agreement that benefits the city and public safety," Mayor Cieslewicz said. "I would like to thank Joe Conway and the members of Local 311 for their leadership in this process. This agreement reflects exactly the kind of cooperative approach between city government and labor that will get us through these tough times together."
