MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Police have charged the man accused of attacking Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett near State Fair Park in West Allis.
A criminal complaint accuses twenty-year-old Anthony J. Peters attacked the Mayor with a metal bar.
Peters was charged Thursday with felony counts of first-degree reckless injury and theft, and two misdemeanors. If convicted, he could face up to 36 years behind bars.
According to the complaint, Peters admits he got into an argument with his 1-year-old daughter's grandmother Saturday evening. When Barrett responded to the woman's shouts by trying to call 911, Peters says he snatched the phone from Barrett and punched him in the face.
Peters was expected to make a court appearance Thursday. Online court records did not list a defense attorney.
