Madison cyclist killed in Colorado accident

FRUITA, COLORADO (WKOW) -- A Madison man died after losing control of his bicycle while riding in the Colorado National Monument over the weekend.

Stanley Dodson lost control of the bike while riding down the eat hill of Rim Rock Drive about a mile from the east entrance station in the Monument Saturday afternoon.

Tow other cyclists riding up the hill saw Dodson going down hill at about 25 mph before he lost control and fell to the pavement. The cyclists called 911. EMTs and a National Park Service ranger immediately responded to the accident scene.

Dodson was taken to a Grand Junction, Colorado, area hospital. He died Sunday afternoon.

This is the first serious cycling accident that has resulted in a death in the history of the Colorado National Monument.
