State worker remains hospitalized after collision with lawmaker's car
MADISON (WKOW) -- A family member told 27 News a state worker remains hospitalized after he was hit while on his bicycle Aug. 18 by a car driven by Rep. Fred Clark (D-Baraboo).
Police reports identify the victim as Richard Rideout, 56, of Madison. State records show Rideout is an employee of the Department of Natural Resources. UW Hospital spokesperson Lisa Brunette said Rideout is listed in fair condition.
Authorities said Clark was cited for a red light violation for allegedly failing to stop at the intersection of N. Hamilton Street and N. Webster Street. Police reports state alcohol or drugs played no role in the incident.
Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain said one witness of several witnesses to the collision believed the bicyclist's actions led to the collision.
Clark has yet to respond for a request for comment from 27 News. Records show Clark was also involved in a collision in 2002 on N. Whitney Way in Madison and was cited for following too close.
