ROCK SPRINGS (WKOW) -- The Village of Rock Springs is getting $1,733,227 to remove flood-prone homes and return the area to open space.
The grant, paid for by the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency, will help purchase and remove up to 19 structures.
The money is known as Hazard Mitigation Funds. FEMA provides 75% of the cost, and 25% is matched by the state of Wisconsin and the Village of Rock Springs.
Record flooding in June of 2008 inundated the village, with some locations more than 7 feet under water.
