MADISON (WKOW) - State Department of Corrections workers will take their first furlough day this Friday.
The agency says most services to the general public will be unavailable that day. People should call ahead if they're planning to visit a corrections office or institution. State prisons will reduce staffing to holiday levels.
Governor Jim Doyle has ordered all state workers to take 16 furlough days, over the next two years, to offset the state's financial woes.
