Study: People with H1N1 virus are contagious for more than 1 week
MADISON (WKOW) -- Advice to stay away from people infected with the H1N1 virus for 24 hours up to a few days may not be good enough.
New studies now show that many people with H1N1 flu may be able to spread the virus for a week or more after symptoms first appear.
Some health officials previously said they could spread the virus for one week or less.
Health officials have been telling people to avoid contact with others for a day after their fever goes away. New research shows the virus can still spread, and the best advice is to stay home from work or school until your cough is gone.
The research was discussed Monday at a microbiology conference in California
