MADISON (WKOW) -- Employees of St. Mary's hospital in Madison are doing what they can to help out fellow employees that are down on their luck.
The 'Make a Splash with Some Cash' event raised more than 35 hundred dollars in gifts and pledges for the employee fund that gives a one-time gift to employees whose spouse has been laid off, need help with a medical bill or are just financially down on their luck.
"In the first quarter of this year we saw almost double the number of employees that had needs then we did in the first quarter of last year. A lot of that related to significant others being laid off from work," said Paula McKenzie, Director of Pastoral Care at St. Mary's Hospital.
Staff raised the funds by tossing coins onto plates in the winter garden fountain to win a rubber duck. Maynard the Mallard was also hand to toss a few coins.
All the money in the fountain at the end of the day will go into the employee fund. There was even an award for the employee that guessed the correct amount of money in the fountain at the end of day, a "duck"torate of Guessology.
