SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- Madison Police on Sunday evening arrested a man who was suspected of a drive-by style shooting in a busy Sun Prairie intersection three hours earlier.

The shooting happened at the intersection of Dane County Highway C and Hoepker Road, near the Target in Sun Prairie around 2 p.m.

Sun Prairie Police spokesperson Rem Brandt said witnesses reported seeing one vehicle with the suspected shooter drive up next to another vehicle in which two adults and an infant were riding.

MPD Sergeant Jason Ostrenga said the adult male and a child in the victims' vehicle were injured.  Brandt said they were not hit by bullets, but instead suffered related injuries from broken glass.  The victims went to a residence on Old Camden Square in Madison after the shooting.

Shortly after it happened, Sun Prairie Police and Dane County Sheriff's deputies taped off part of the intersection and redirected traffic.

Ostrenga said victims later went to a hospital where they were treated and released for non life-threatening wounds.

Madison Police arrested the adult male suspect around 5 p.m., Ostrenga said.  Both he and Brandt said it appears the adults in the victims' vehicle were intended targets, and that this was not a random act.

So far, officers in charge at each of the departments are not releasing details.

Around 3 p.m. Sunday, 27 News photojournalist Dana O'Shea said Madison Police officers were around a building at 2461 Old Camden Square on the city's far northeast side.
