Rings stolen from jewelry store in East Towne Mall

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police are looking for a couple who is accused of stealing two diamond rings from Zales Jewelers worth about $6,000.

Police say the theft happened on September 22 around 8:20 p.m., but was unnoticed and reported a week later.

According to the police report, man and woman came into the store together to look at clearance rings. Surveillance video shows the clerk assisting the woman and as this is going on, the man reaches over the counter, opens the back of the display case and steals two rings valued at around $3,000 each.

Police say the couple then said they were leaving to go to an ATM to get money for a down payment on a ring, but they never returned.

The man is described as black, in his 40’s and about 5’10” with a thin build. He has short hair and a moustache. He was last seen wearing a white button down shirt, dark jeans and white shoes. He was carrying a black leather coat.

The woman is described as black, with a thick build and about 5’6”. She was wearing dark clothes and a dark hat.

Police say the clerk remembers both having heavy accents.
